Suffolk in November – Christmas Shopping Anyone?

A Spot of Christmas Shopping in Suffolk

Suffolk may not be the first destination people think of when it comes to Christmas shopping, but there are some off-the-beaten track locations, festive fayres and artisan producers all waiting to greet their discerning customers.

Start Local

Our nearby Saturday farmers market at Wyken is popular with foodies seeking artisan produce, locally farmed meats, and game. But there’s more to be found which won’t look out of place in a tasteful hamper. Pickles and preserves, confectionary and cakes and even a tinned malt loaf will all keep well. Whilst you’re there, you may want to pop next door in to the Wyken Vineyard’s boutique ‘country store’; a very special bookshop, selected clothing accessories and local artworks all beautifully arranged.

Blackthorpe Barn Crafts

The annual ‘British Crafts at Blackthorpe Barn’ events run each weekend up to Christmas, starting on Saturday 10th November. This glorious thatched Suffolk building is tucked away in woodland just a couple of miles outside Bury St Edmunds. Selected craftworkers and artists congregate in the ancient barn to display their works in a welcoming atmosphere. If it’s Christmas decorations you’re after then the adjacent rooms are the place to visit. Here you’ll find traditional and contemporary ornaments to brighten up your home.

Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre

The ever popular Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre attracts thousands of visitors to the Suffolk town, so we recommend allowing enough time to see everything it has to offer. Taking place 22–25 November, there will be stalls throughout the town, some indoors and many on the Angel Hill where there’s also a stage with entertainment. There will be plenty of street food sellers and drinks vendors too.

Heading to East Suffolk

If you’re planning a visit to the natural Suffolk coast to the east of us then Snape Maltings provides a suitable location for refreshment and warmth. There’s an array of fascinating small shops and galleries. These are always well-stocked at Christmas time, often with the sort of gift ideas not commonly found on the high street.

So make a point of enjoying your Christmas shopping experience this year, visit Suffolk!
