Bury St Edmunds
Just 10 miles away from Upthorpe Lodges, our local town of Bury St Edmunds boasts a great mix of the modern and the historic.
The Arc shopping centre has a range of big name brands and a number of restaurants with a diverse culinary offering. It’s also home to The Apex arts venue where there’s something going on all year round to suit all tastes. The Cathedral is just a short walk away from the Abbey Gardens, and from here you can take a leisurely walk up Abbeygate Street which opens onto the market square, full of activity on Wednesdays and Saturdays. While you’re here, why not call in at the Moyse’s Hall Museum to catch up on a slice of local history, before taking in St John’s street, full of local independent shops, or venture on to the Arc. The well-known Greene King beers are brewed in the town, and brewery tours start at their visitor centre in Westgate Street, and the nearby Edwardian Theatre Royal is a great venue if you fancy an evening’s entertainment. Bury St Edmunds is a great example of a thriving market town.
