Autumn Sunshine and Long Walks

Autumn in Suffolk presents us with the perfect excuse for a country walk or two. A network of footpaths radiate outwards from Upthorpe Lodges, entering a mix of open countryside, woodland and charming villages. Catch a glimpse of our local wildlife, discover a local pub or cafe, or take a peek inside one of our local historic churches. Our local landscape provides for gentle and comfortable walking, with routes mostly signposted and easy to follow. Each lodge has maps and guides for those who wish to venture further or plan their own trek.

Go Autumn Wildlife Spotting

Although we're in typical East Anglian countryside, with plenty of large arable fields, there's a good chance of seeing a bit of local wildlife. We commonly watch Roe and Muntjac Deer, Buzzards and Hares, all species that reap what they can from the open terrain. You may spot a fox along a hedgerow, an occasional Red Kite or some very vocal Skylarks on high. For the keener enthusiasts, we have nearby Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserves at Ixworth Mere, Redgrave, and Lackford Lakes. Further afield, after a drive of an hour or so, you can reach nationally important reserves such as Minsmere on the Suffolk Coast, or one of our own favourites, Titchwell in North Norfolk.

Escape to the Country

Autumn in Suffolk is normally mild with a good amount of sunshine. Many of our guests enjoy the benefits of discovering the great outdoors, and find that they quickly slip into their own 'chill zone'. Unpack, casual gear on, and you can head off around the parish, perhaps dropping in to the Cock Inn for refreshment. Then make your way back here feeling full of fresh air, and ready for a rewarding dip in the hot tub. Sometimes the simplest pleasures are the best!
