Understandably, Staycation is the word for many travellers in 2021. If you’re looking for plenty to see and do – choose Suffolk! Firstly, it’s one of the driest and sunniest counties in the UK. Yet it has miles of unspoilt coastline, gentle green countryside and a wealth of wild places to explore. It’s also a convenient drive from most of London, and the East Midlands.
Discover Suffolk’s Past
We’re not far from the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, with a well-preserved town centre and a magnificent cathedral. While you’re here you may want to learn a bit about the area. How about the town’s brewing history on a Greene King Brewery tour, with a sup or two? Or enjoy a recital in the calm Cathedral environment perhaps? You can go back further in time at the Moyses Hall Museum which includes Stone Age artefacts from this very ‘flinty’ area.
Wildlife Watchers in for a Treat
Suffolk is home to a wide variety of the UK’s wildlife, nowhere more than at one of our many wildlife reserves. The National Trust, the RSPB and Suffolk Wildlife Trust all have a strong presence. Minsmere, by the coast, is arguably the best not just in Suffolk but in Great Britain. Nearer to us we have Lackford Lakes, Redgrave and Lopham Fen, and Knettishall Heath. They are great places for just a walk, or for spending a few hours absorbing the sights and sounds. We have guides and binoculars available for guests to use.
